Jugra Insitu Museum

Historic museum housed in a former British colonial police station built in 1878, showcasing Kuala Langat's heritage and featuring an armored car from the emergency period.

Overview

Jugra Insitu Museum is located about 50 meters from Pengkalan Batu Hampar in Jugra and Bandar subdistrict, Kuala Langat. The museum, which opened in 2012, was originally a district police station better known as ‘Rumah Pasung’. This building served as a place for criminal offenders to receive punishment through the British judicial system at that time, where the upper part was a court while the lower floor was used as a prison.

Jugra Insitu Museum is renowned for several reasons:

  1. Historical Significance: Built in 1878 by Captain Harry Charles Syers, a British police officer, representing colonial-era architecture
  2. Unique Construction: Made of solid stone (granite) cut in square shape to form a strong and sturdy building structure
  3. Heritage Protection: Gazetted as an old monument/historic land site by the National Heritage Department on 19 November 2002
  4. Architectural Interest: Original building design with upper floor serving as court and lower floor as prison
  5. Outdoor Exhibition: Features a GMC 15 CWT model armored car used by the Malayan Federal Police during the emergency period (1948-1960)
  6. Archaeological Displays: Exhibits excavation results including prison structures, mini courts, old wells, and more
  7. Cultural Heritage: Showcases the history of the Selangor sultanate in Kuala Langat
