Darul Quran

A premier institute for Quranic studies in Malaysia, Darul Quran offers comprehensive education in memorization and recitation of the Holy Quran.

A Premier Institution for Quranic Learning

Darul Quran stands as Malaysia’s foremost institution dedicated to the study, memorization, and recitation of the Holy Quran. Located in the serene setting of Ampang Pecah, Kuala Kubu Bharu, Selangor, this prestigious institute has been nurturing Quranic scholars since its establishment.

Rich Historical Heritage

The vision for Darul Quran was first conceived in 1966 when Malaysia’s first Prime Minister, Tuanku Abdul Rahman Prince Al-Haj, expressed his desire to establish a dedicated Institute for Quranic Studies in Malaysia. This noble intention was articulated during the opening of the National Mosque, inspired by the Musabaqah Al-Quran competitions held since 1960 and further motivated by the visit of Sheikh Mahmud Syaltut, Rector of Al-Azhar University, during the National Mosque’s inauguration.

Humble Beginnings

The journey began with Maahad Tahfiz Al-Quran Wal-Qiraat, initially established as a unit within the Islamic Affairs Division of the Prime Minister’s Department in Kuala Lumpur. The first classes commenced on March 1, 1966, in the National Mosque Lecture Hall with just eight dedicated students selected and sent by various Malaysian states.

Evolution and Growth

In 1997, recognizing its importance and success, Maahad Tahfiz Al-Quran Wal-Qiraat was elevated and became part of the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM). It was then renamed Darul Quran, marking a new chapter in its mission to preserve and propagate Quranic knowledge.

Permanent Campus

Finally, on November 1, 1998, Darul Quran found its permanent home at the Darul Quran Complex in Ampang Pecah, Kuala Kubu Bharu, Selangor. This purpose-built campus provides an ideal environment for students to immerse themselves in Quranic studies away from urban distractions.
